No such thing as a free lunch ... or maybe a free day trip to Venice anymore, either

Mass tourism has placed such a strain on Venice that the city will be imposing a visitor's fee for 29 high-traffic days this year, starting April 25, to dissuade daytrippers and curb the growing number of tourists. Exemptions will apply to locals, commuters, people who pay property tax in Venice, visitors who stay overnight and those participating in sporting events, but some exemptions must be registered online. While this may only be a trial period, the results will be used to tweak the program with the goal of making it permanent.

Local Lens: A brothersā€™ guide to Scotland with Colin and Ewan McGregor

Hollywood actor, UNICEF ambassador and director, Ewan McGregor and his former pilot brother, Colin reconnect in Scotland against the backdrop of the Cairngormsā€™ lush mountains, shimmering lochs, and the majestic trees of the Hermitage forest. First stop along the epic road trip is the Newtonmore Grill Truckstop. Locally known as ā€œthe best kept secret in the Highlands,ā€ the no-fuss, no-frills cafĆ© is a scenic spot to fill up on haggis lasagne, with a strong cup of tea. An excellent meal before an exciting, winding adventure. For a gentle hike, the brothers explore The Hermitage, a forest woodland in Perthshire, with staggeringly tall trees, a medieval history, and Ossianā€™s Hall folly overlooking the Black Linn waterfall. As all explorers know, you should always pack a snack. In preparation for a bigger hike in the Cairngorms mountain range, Colin and Ewan stop off at the Aran Bakery in Dunkeld, a bright and airy foodie magnet on the charming Atholl Street, opposite The Scottish Deli, a great place to eat before hiking in the Highlands. They fill their bags with a perfect adventurerā€™s lunch: a sausage roll and two sandwiches, one venison, one smoked trout. Now that the packed lunch is sorted, the second hike can begin. As Ewan says, ā€œScotland has the most beautiful scenery. Thereā€™s something about the air, color, and remoteness of it all.ā€ Nowhere can this be more felt than the Cairngorms. Snowy in winter, purple with heather in summer, the dramatic peaks of the U.K.ā€™s largest National Park draw outdoorsy types and are often named in ā€œbest places to visitā€ lists. The brothers then make a detour to Taymouth Marina, the lochside ā€œwild wellnessā€ retreat, with family friendly water sports, Loch Ness Monster pedalo boats for kids, a giant trampoline, and the resortā€™s biggest draw: its HotBox Spa. The brothers brave the ā€œwellness plungeā€ (a slide into the freezing loch), warming up afterwards in Scotlandā€™s largest hot tub. As the evening draws in, itā€™s time to rest and toast marshmallows at The Dell of Abernathy. Set deep in the forest, this collection of six stone cottages has been decked out with impeccable tasteā€” an ideal place to stay in the Highlands for large or small groups. Experiences include supper clubs and meditation rituals, swimming in the black peat-soaked loch, and gathering by the firepit. To round off the day, the brothers head to a local favoriteā€”a live music night at the The Ewe Bar within the Fortingall Hotel, a listed building with 11 rooms, traditional Scottish interiors and a 2,000-year-old yew tree, which, according to local legend, is the oldest tree in the U.K. But will they see the northern lights? 8K Amazing Wildlife of Botswana - Savuti, Linyati & Riverfront of Chobe National Park - Part 1

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking wilderness of Africa with this stunning 8K wildlife video. Soar over the vast savannah of Botswana, where majestic lions rule, impressive giraffes roam as elephants graze, and cheetahs unleash their raw speed. Witness the vibrant tapestry of life, from graceful impalas leaping across the plains to colorful wild birds painting the sky. Feel the earth vibrate with the pounding hooves of wildebeests and the playful barks of baboons. This 8K UHD footage captures every intricate detail, from the contrasting fur of leopards to the strong skin of elephants. Let the real sounds of nature transport you to the heart of Savuti, Linuyanti, and Riverfront in Chobe National Park, South Africa. This virtual safari is more than just a video; it's a sensory experience, a chance to unwind and reconnect with the raw beauty of the wild. So, sit back, relax, and let Africa's charm wash over you in a stunning 8K Ultra HD. Among the many unique savannah species here in Chobe National Park are some truly incredible birds. Take the Gray go-away-bird and the Verreaux's Eagle-Owl. Their names alone pique your curiosity, but their fascinating adaptations and behaviors will leave you awestruck. Despite its drab name, the Gray go-away-bird is a vocal powerhouse. Its loud, melancholic cry, which sounds like "go away," earned it its name. But this cry isn't just a mournful tune; it's a clever defense mechanism! The go-away-bird uses its song to warn other birds of approaching predators, creating a cacophony that can confuse and deter even the fiercest hunters. They're expert mimics. Not only can they mimic the calls of other birds, but they can even imitate the alarm calls of mammals like monkeys and baboons. This ability to speak the language of the savannah further expands their early-warning network, making them the neighborhood watchdogs of the avian world. The Verreaux's Eagle-Owls have an uncanny ability to hear in the dark. Their enormous, asymmetrical ears are like satellite dishes, pinpointing the faintest rustle of a rodent or the flutter of a moth's wings in the dead of night. This makes them apex predators in the darkness, silently swooping down on unsuspecting prey with laser-like precision. In 2022, adventurer-filmmaker Robert Hofmeyr set his sights on Botswana, Red-V-Raptor in tow. He plunged into the soul of untouched national parks, capturing the land's spellbinding beauty and teeming wildlife with an intimacy rarely seen. His devotion birthed a breathtaking video, a vibrant hymn to Botswana's natural treasures, and a testament to the unwavering spirit needed to unveil such a wondrous spectacle.
